good grief.

Something always comes up to slow you down, doesn't it? We may have a 3-4 week delay until our homestudy is completed. The latest is that we must get background checks (to say whether we've had a child abuse or neglect report filed in their state) from every state we've lived in. Thankfully we've already gotten the one we're residing in, but there is a long list. If you know what K does for a living, you know we have lived all over creation.

One country and one state do not keep such lists.  Not totally sure what to think about that. On one hand, scary for children in those states... on the other, one less thing for us to do and pay for! So the last two reports we need are from the states where we went to college. The only reason I'm complaining about the delay is that we did not even have children at that time, so why on earth would we have a child abuse report filed on our non-existent children? Love all the bureaucracy.

Time to pray this paperwork moves through at lightening speed so we bring our child home sooner! It makes me sick to my stomach to think he or she may have to live in an orphanage an extra month because of this.

Lord Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth, give me peace. ...and whatever comes from this, all praise is Yours.

Blessings, angela

p.s. I'll reward you for commiserating with me with some pictures of Buddy's birthday.

We took advantage of the free birthday dinner at Red Robin!  Not a clear picture but Buddy looks so cute I can hardly stand it.

If any of you have suggestions for making the icing smoother or piping long lines in one whole piece, I would love to hear them.

These two love birthday hats.  Peanut has been talking for days about wearing them, and she is still wearing one this minute as I type.  She calls herself a unicorn!

Have a blessed weekend!

  1. I'm no cake decorator, but I do know one trick. Fold a piece of printer paper in half with a tight crease. Drag the end with the fold over your icing and it smoothes it! Claire and I love to watch DIY cake videos at http://www.howdini.com/H_search_result.php?search_id=cake. It's where I learned the paper trick. Your cake looks great though!!

  2. the cake does look awesome! wow. you put my cakes to shame...not that I make many, but I did make sienna's last birthday cake from scratch. no decorating though. I guess I need to make it cute this year. I'll remember this. not for your decorations, as I'm sure we won't have a bulldozer on hers or nola's, but for the reminder to HAVE decorations on it. :)

and at least you have some cheap toys...unicorn horns.

oh and he looks adorable in all these pictures, and SO BIG! happy birthday buddy!

  3. Cute, cute cake. I have been decorating cakes for quite awhile and my best tip is to lightly mist the whole cake with water and the smooth with a wide metal spatula. The spatula must be clean. Pop the cake in the frig to dry before adding decoations. As for the long line of icing, probably thinner icing or add a little piping gel.
